How do I make Black Pennies Shine?
Question:I used Vinegar and Lemon Juive to try and make some of my pennies cleaner. I must have left them in too long because many of them became black and part of the incriptions dissolved. Does anyone know how I can make these black pennies clean again without destroying them further?

try rubbing them with catsup (ketchup) alot of coin and silver collectors use this trick!

If these coins are worth money, DON'T CLEAN THEM. They will be worthless. They have to be in their original condition for them to be appraised. If they aren't worth money, and you just want to clean them... WD 40 works great. Spray it on a soft cloth and wipe clean.
Try laying them on a small plate and covering them with Coke. The acid in Coke will take off just about anything.
Try baking soda with or without ammonia in hot water. You can rub the pennies with your fingers or with an old toothbrush. Hopefully the pennies are not collectible. cleaning them reduces the value if they are. Wheat pennies are the ones to leave alone. (Look at the backs to see the difference)
Tarnex. Works great! Just drop the pennies into the solution and let them sit for a few minutes, then pull them out and rinse. Voila! (you can get tarnex at any local hardware, it's approx. $6.00 a bottle). :) Good luck!
I used a polishing cloth, and just continued to rub the surface. The color stayed the same, but the coin was shining. Did not add any cleaning solution to it.
