How do i measure the square foot measurment of my counter top?

Question:i am putting granite on my counter tops...and bathroom floor...how do i calculate it? i need to go buy the stuff!

Answers:
Length x Width

Times the length by the width
1X1 ft.

1 foot length X 1 foot width= 1 square foot.
not as smart as a 5th greader huh?
Countertops are sold and measured in linear measurements.

LxW in inches divided by 12.
It depends on where you are purchasing it. Some stores figure countertops in linear feet because most countertops are a standard width (not all, but most). We are currently purchasing new countertops and I had to ask my husband the same thing (he is the manager of a large home improvement store). We just had to figure how many feet LONG the countertops are to find linear feet. If you are purchasing from a smaller store-they may do it differently. Lowes,Home Depot, etc will likely want linear feet.
It's length X width which will give you total square feet for purposes of estimating the cost, however you will need to give exact measurements for the counter top to the store for purpose of them creating the counter top-- actually it would be best for the store to do the measuring-- if you do it you eat the cost of any mis measurements.
You're kidding, right?
Please tell me that you are not entertaining the notion of putting of granite countertops yourself.

Contact a granite fabricator in your area...he will come out and TEMPLATE your top. He will take exact measurements, and if your house is like mine - and 3/4 of an inch off - they will adjust the template accordingly.

Granite is not an inexpensive material - would you rather trust your tape measure and eat the results if you measured incorrectly - or trust a professional - and if they screw up -they eat it?? Then remember, no matter where you purchase your granite - you're buying a slab of granite - you have to allow for waste - so, while your measurements might show that you need a certain footage, based on your slab - you might need more.

And while granite is a beautiful flooring - I really would not recommend it on a bathroom floor. One of the things that makes a floor more slip resistant is the width of the grout joint. A wider grout joint gives your foot something to "catch".
Granite floors look better with a "rectified" grout joint - something about the width of a credit card. This being said - in a bathroom - a granite floor is going to be terribly slippery.
It's best to do what I just did in my bathroom renovation, and find a porcelian tile that blends with the granite. That way you'll be sure footed in the bathroom - not only that - the granite countertops will make a "punch" .
Length times with width and linear feet for bullnose add 5 to ten percent for scrap.Natural polished granite stone tiles come with a factory bevil for an1/8 inch grout joint. For the bathroom measure the longest and widest parts then times. If your buying from a lowes or home depot they will let you return extra tiles.
