I just hook up an electric dryer and I have a noise coming out the exhaust hose?
Question:It's like a howling type noise,
do I need a longer hose, or shorter hose, or is it twisted
anyone have this problem
the dryer is in front of the duct in the wall, and it's about 1 foot above the hole on the dryer, and I have the hose on the dryer and it curves up and then curves onto the duct outlet.
hose is about 2 feet long total, aluminum, the kind that can bend
Answers:
1. Disconnect the hose entirely from the back of the dryer.
2. Turn the dryer on so that air blows out the back.
3. Is the noise still heard?
. .. . A. Yes it is - problem with dryer
. .. . B. No, Problem with air flow / hose
If you arrive at 3B :
Check hose for any obstructions.
Check hose for any sharp turns, angles or vibrations.
You see, if it is not the dryer, and it is not the hose, then it is the air flow. This can be cause by a vibration of the hose. There could be a sharp piece of metal, the exterior metal(coming loose) or a clamp or anything of this type that is causeing this noice as the air flow causes it to "vibrate" - resonate at a specific frequency - create a sound.
You'll want to check this out very thoroughly, but eventually you can narrow down the cause to this effect.
Call where you got it from if new cuz its under warranty (free service)
Ohterwise call a pro. Some older venting is against code, and should a fire start in the dryer your claim could be rejected.
Diyers end up spending more money on repairs than if they would just call for service
