How can I decorate my room on a budget? [READ DETAILS]?
Question:I have a tight budget, but I'd love to decorate my room and make it more personal and cosy.
It's quite large with white walls and ceiling, and dark terracotta-coloured ceramic tiles.
It looks very impersonal.
I can't change the tiles... but I do like rugs.
The walls are pretty much blank except for one or two picture frames.
In my room, I have a double bed with no bed head, small side table, dresser, small unused desk, 3 wicker drawer set, and a huge blank white wood closet in the corner.
I'm a teenager so I want to turn it into my "retreat" where I can really live.
Painting the walls isn't out of the picture...
Creative and very detailed answers will get the 10 points.
Thanks! :)

PAINT!. do 2 walls either opposite or adjacent in 1 color & the anthr on the others. Do a faux finish. U can do it. Do all u'r walls in 1 color then take 1 wall & faux it. OR jst faux one wall & leave the others white. Like sponging which when after adding glaze to u'r paint or another shade of that paint u can sponge it on.. u can use plastic bags it on. rags it on or roll it on... or brush strokes it on... or wash it over.. give u'r room some POP. If u can paint then go for it.
Can u paint u'r furniture? Then if u don't or can't paint u'r walls.. paint u'r furniture. U can faux those as well. Faux the tops & leave the rest solid or visa versa.
U said u don't use the desk. how bout using it for doing u'r hair or makeup instead of DESK. U can also put fabric on u'r closet doors.U can do a french board on u'r closet doors.. **c below** OR paint stripes or plaids or circles or flowers..
Like someone said b/4... go to garage sales, flea markets ,thrife stores.. p/u things there. Anything CAN B PAINTED.w/ the rt paint.
U didn't mention any lights..lamps... u can pick them up as well or if u want to b created.. make u'r own. P/u a lamp that u don't like cheap for the gutts. Use those gutts to make u'r OWN lamp. Or even hanging lamps. I made 2 hanging lamps out of those small small lamp shades & one out of wire "fruit" basket painted & upside down. U can make them out of anything..wastebasket...wicker basket..things like that.
For u'r headboard... paint one on the wall above u'r bed. Or if u like the canopy thing, check the clearance bins at fabric stores..Walmart, JoAnn's..etc.. or take a sheet clearanced... if it's white ..dye it.. then get a lamp hook & hang it from the ceiling. OR.. if u like something w/ POP... ck the clearance material for something u like w/ flowers or designs that u can cut out & corn-starch it on u'r wall so later on it will come off. Or take those canvas that goes on sale 2 or 3 for? & paint them.. solid.. w/ desgin ..& hang them above u'r bed for headboard affect. OR again take material & wrap it around wood scrapes from the lumber cut 2 the size u want in squares, rect or circles or form board or cardboard w/ batting & place as u'r headboard.
Make a board to go on u'r wall for pix of friends & celebrities. Take a cardboard.. u may hav 2 dbl it, wrap u'r favorite material around it... sheet... old shirt... old jeans.. staple it on the back... then put rope, string/ribbon, lace criss cross & stick u'r photos in there or notes.. Make them square.. rectangle.. circle.. start..heart... & velco them on the wall or something of that nature.
What is u'r window covering like? Do u have curtains..blinds..shades? Or do u need those as well. If u have shades.. like the roll up kind... adhere material to them or paint on them w/ fabric paint. so when the shade is down.. u have a design. If u have blinds, u can make valance to go over it... hang CD's at different lengths.. u can paint them as well. beads.. cloth napkins...cloth tablecloths... cloth placemats over a wood stick or PVC pipe. If u need curtains u can make them w/ old jeans.. t-shirts... material twisted... tablecloths... shower curtains..
Take a color or colors from u'r rugs that u like & put it on u'r furniture or walls... u can paint stripes or circles on u'r walls... hearts..flwrs w/ u'r hands... xxooo... one wall or 2 walls. get clear christmas lts from garage sales etc & string them on the wall above u'r bed or in a circle..star.. or even those running lts. '
I don't know what u'r likes or dislikes r b/c u didn't really mention that, but don't b afraid to look at something different at clearance/sales/thrift stores... what would happen if u hung it on the wall instead of what it is s'pose to do... or upside down or sideways.. take a crate or 2 & put it on u'r walls for shelves... those wood crates.. u can paint them as well.
Have fun w/ paint..fabrics.. & sale items. Hint.. Target always has things @ the end of their rows towards the back that r clearance.. u may find some material or pillow there.
Which reminds me... pillows... make them out of t-shirts... jeans...rugs.. etc... if u can't sew no problem.. can u iron... they have tape that u just iron one end to the other & it's sealed. Or make a bolster out of u'r t-shirts... make long tube.. stuff... take ribbon,, belts.. rope.. & tie on the ends... firecracker pillow.
Ok... so have i helped u any w/ ideas? Have fun & don't b afraid. If u don't like it, u can always take it off or paint over it. Make things POP... u'r young & things should b what u like...that's what will make it cozy for u.
The biggest costs associated with redecorating a bedroom are paint and fabric (i.e. your bed linens). To make a large room look less like a hospital, DEFINITELY change the white walls to something less stark - like eggshell. To make the room feel warm, use different colors on the walls - perhaps making one wall a lighter shade of brown or one wall a pale, almost transparent-looking blue. These earth tones will warm it up a lot. Choose a comforter first, though, and paint the walls depending on that color scheme. If you like rugs, earth tones are the cheapest and the easiest to find. For all the dead space on the desktops, etc., go to yard sales with your friends. Pick up an item here, an item there... small things that are ecclectic. Every time you look at them, you'll be reminded of your day out with (Jen) and how much fun you had picking out that item. Should instantly make your room feel warm and friendly, and you'll spend less than $100 in the process. Good luck!
Paint first, clear everything out, look all over your house for wierd or strange objects and incorporate them into your room. Get some candles, bowl of fresh fruit, See what kind of curtains you can get, the bamboo look is in and you can get them cheap. Candles....floor lighting .and some baskets for mag, books, etc. have a place to put all your paper stuff in, get a rug that draws your eye out, throw in some pillows, .there ya go.
