First things first. You have to strip the old roof off. There should be a company near you that rents dumpsters. A ten yard size should hold a 1600 sq. foot house of old shingles and underlayment. Cost out here is about $250.00. Make sure all old nails are removed that stick up and could possibly cause a hole in your new underlayment and shingles.Check your sheeting[roof] boards to make sure that they are in good shape, replace any that aren't. Lay your underlayment, and if in snow area, make sure you use the rubber underlayment in case of "ice dam" build-up. Then lay your shingles, If you have a sibling or a good friend that has done roof work, don't be afraid to grab them for any advice{ or a helping hand if you are real lucky!!]
Good luck--it doesn't take rocket science, but some careful thought is in order. If you need more detailed advice, im me.
First of all you will have to decide on they type of material you want to use.
Metal tiles require batons at different centres to concrete tile, long run iron requires purlins and shingles require sarking.
Is this a new roof or repairing an existing one? most new roofs are trussed rafters which need to be measured and made up by a roofing suppliers and installed by trained professionals because the bracing has to be done right or your roof will collapse. for smaller roofs or restoration "cut" roofs are an option this is where timber is measured and cut on site, again a skilled job
I agree with The Rat.
If you have to ask how to do it, then you are getting in over your head. If this were a tool shed, or a dog house, that would be one thing. But, for your home?? You run the risk of getting hurt. If you botch the job, which is likely, you will have to hire someone to come and fix it. That will cost you double.
Think long and hard on this one...
