Aluminum window sliding glass removal possible?
Question:I need to remove the sliding glass part of my aluminum window because the air conditioner won't fit unless I do this. I think it must be able to be done, because you'd have to do it in order to replace the glass. How do I get this bottom slider out? It is a horizontal window - bottom half slides up to open.
Answers:
Look on the track the window slides against (the one nearest you) there will be a notch that you can fit the little arm that`s on the frame around the window in and pull the window out.
There`s probably one of these little arms on both ends so you`ll have to continue to slide the frame until you get them both out.
If the window is horizontal the slider will slide open to the right and the notches will be at the top.
If it is a vertical window, the slider raises to open and the notches will be along the sides.
Be persistent cause you may have to tilt it a bit and they can be stubborn. Spraying with WD-40 first will help.
If it`s a newer window, it won`t do much good to take the slider out, as the front and side stops on the frame are probably going to get in the way also.
On these, a glazier would`nt remove the slider to replace the glass. Just the actual frame inside the slider that holds the glass. Are you confused enough?
Good luck with it!
Raise the window half way then seen if there is a release lever underside of the alluminum window frame that will let you swing the window toward you. If no release --???
There should be screws you can remove to get the windows out.
