Amana Fridge Condenser Fan not working?

Question:Amana Fridge Model# BB20V1PS has the compressor running just fine but the fridge and freezer were not cold. I removed the back panel and the condenser fan (next to the compressor) was not running. Please help !! Is my motor busted or is there another problem.

Answers:
You have few choices there. One is obviously that the motor is really failed. Another is that the fan blade is broken although turning by an OK motor but not capable of moving air. Another is that the attachment between the fan blade and the shaft of the OK motor is loose so motor is turning but fan not spinning. Another is that the condenser itself needs a vacuum cleaning so badly that the fan is not doing any good although the motor is turning its blade. while you have the vacuum there see if pet hairs or dust or onion skins or baggies are stuck in the fan motor keeping it from spinning.

Taking a look at the fan will answer most of these questions.

Id say without a doubt that your compressor is gone in this unit. Those things have a set of reed type valves and a failure of a valve will still allow the compressor to run.

A refrigerator will continue to cool even if this fan below has failed. It will be much less efficient, but indeed it will continue to perform. These fans were added to improve efficiency of the refrigerators and to meet federal standards for electricity usage.
Its very hard to notice this fan failure because the condenser coil is near the floor and rising heated air from the compressed freon rises and the cool air at floor level cools the coil without the fan and the unit continues to work much like the older units that had the coils on the back side.

You can diagnose the compressor with a set of tongs that measure the wattage load on the compressor. If the compressor is pulling a load then it is fine. If not, either the compressor is gone or freon has leaked out . My guess is your compressor is gone. .
