Is it cheaper to paint yourself or hire someone to do it?
Question:My bedroom needs to be painted bad, the walls are white and ugly! I have so much stuff in there (bed, tv cabnit, 2 dressers, 2 end tables, computer desk & a bench) not counting everything in my closet that should me in the room... All of my stuff in my room is very very heavy and would take a long time to move it all.. (dont have any where else to put it while we paint)...So should I hire someone to paint that way they can just cover eveything up so we dont have to move my stuff as much? Please help! THanks for the answers in advance!

Painting a room is no big deal, even when it comes to heavy furniture. Go get some of the large disc furniture sliders that you put under the legs of the furniture, and even the heaviest pieces will easily slide far enough away from the wall to allow you get behind them to paint. (They also allow rearrangement just as easily in your newly painted room!)
You can definitely paint the room for less yourself. The amount of money your would save yourself over hiring a painter would easily allow you buy to new curtains and bedding.
To hire someone to move your crap just a foot off the wall is a waste of money. You should get a group of friends to help you slide it a few feet away and go to town. A painter will most likely not move your furniture and if they have to will charge you ALOT because they are painters not furniture movers.
some cold beer snacks some more beer a coulple of buddies more cold beer job done
You will pay out the nose to hire someone to paint one room, if you can even get someone to take such a small job. You should be able to do it yourself for under a hundred for a moderate size room, including paint, rollers, brushes, and plastic dropcloths. Depending on where you live hiring someone could cost ten times that.
As someone who paints rooms I do not move furniture and if I do its a surcharge specific to how much there is... its very easy to paint a room and not that expensive I am very open with my clients and they see how much they spend on supplies and how much they spend in labor... and at the end of it they usually say the same thing... " now that I watched you do that I realised I could have done it myself and saved myself alot of money" granted I do really amazing work... (if I do say so myself) and I have been rehired by the same people over and over again... seriously a room that size I could have done in maybe 6 hours but no longer then a weekend... do yourself a favor and get some friends to help you out if you have any due favors chash them in... and if not expect to owe someone a good deed in return... and beer helps :0)
I would do a price analysis.
How much do you make per hour?
How long will it take you to paint?
How much does it cost to have the room painted?
What is the difference and is it worth it to you?
