If you are hesitant to use the acid method, just let the tiles soak with water, and scrub with a stiff brush. (circular motion) It is more work, but unless you know what you are doing, I hesitate to recommend the acid to someone that is not a professional. Too many chances of damage to yourself and other things.
A mixture of muriatic acid and water will remove it all.
Start out with 1 part acid to 10 parts water making stronger as you go if no results.
Make the mixture an brush it on with a paint brush
let it set for a min or 2 or 3
scrub with stiff scrub brush
wipe the area clean with a rag and clean water.
repeat if necessary
After done neturlize the area with WHITE vinegar not CIDER
The acid needs to "soften" the grout it will not "dissolve it" immediately, besides this is not what you want, you just want it soft enough to break the bond it has to the tile surface.
PLEASE LISTEN use only the weakest strength that will work for you the acid can and will change the color of the grout lines if it is too strong. if you mix it as described above and paint it on instead of pouring it on you will be OK.
CAUTION------CAUTION----
This acid will immediately eat through your skin and the vapors can kill you. please follow directions. Use a fan to blow the fumes out of the room or use a respirator. where rubber gloves. long pants. long sleeves and safety glasses or you will have more to worry about than your stained tiles...
