Cutting a circle into wood?
Question:I need to cut four small circles into a pieace of wood. Its not very thick but I have no idea how to cut them out. Any help?
Answers:
Hole saw or spade bits for a drill are the best things for this. Check the Home Centers and hardware stores for the correct size.
depending on the size of the hole they make hole cutting saws you can either buy the one you need or a hole set
Yup, you need a hole saw.
They are often used in plumbing and for drilling door knob holes.
Here is what they look like and some information on using them:
I think you can just use a drill... with a drill bit that corresponds to the size of holes you need... I know you can buy pretty large drill bits to make pretty big holes. But as you can tell, I'm not much of a diy type. Make sure you clamp your wood down - or brace it in some way. You could always bring it into your local hardware store for the advice.
Go to your hardware store. There are special drills bits for cutting out circular holes up to approximately 2" I think.
Hole saws are available from most home centers up to 6 inches in diameter.
A hole saw will work, especially for larger holes. If you are looking for smaller circles, or don't want the circle cut all the way through, go to your local hardware/home improvement store and buy what is called a Forstner bit in the size you need. They can be a little pricier than "spade" style bits, but will make a much cleaner hole or circle.
