Answers:
go for a concrete one at least 6+inches thick
get sum wood , 6 ash trays , sum lube and a hammer and aah bisto u have a drive way!
I have to agree with Nick, using paving slabs or even blocks will be more trouble than it's worth, they break or move due to the weight.
Get some concrete down, it's wont look pretty but it will do the job and last for years.
You can add a colour to concrete which might make it look a bit better, ask at your local builders merchants.
I have 3.5 ton van on my 50mm block paving and its fine its all in the prep work.I dug down 8 inches and then put 3 inches of hard core and hired a vibrating wacker plate from any hire shop ( £20 WEEKEND) a nd compacted it down.Once that is done then put some weed surprecent down and cover this with sharp sand ,again compact down with the wacker plate , scrape the sand to your required depth and start to lay your block in the heronbone pattern as this is the strongist way to take alot of weight.once they are down sweep in dry kilm sand and wacker down REMEMBER TO LEAVE YOUR PAVERS 10mm HIGHER WHEN LAYING THEM AS THE FINAL WACKER WILL TAKE THEM DOWN TO MAKE A SOLID BASE . Mine have been down for 1 year and not moved
You can put paving slabs down, but will need at least 5 inches of compacted hardcore down first.
If you want a cheap driveway, get a couple Sq Metres of hardcore delivered, and dig down 5 inches where the cars will stand, lay in the hardcore and compact (hire a compactor from HSS). Then lay gravel over the full area.
get a contractor its the best way
i do not recomend pacing slabs for a drive way as they tend to break if not bedded correctly, i would advise 150mm of concrete reinforced with steel mesh and atleast 150 mm of compacted hard core beneath that, the other option is 85mm thick brick paviours but is you dant have experience your best off getting someone in who knows what they are doing .
