Making Molds for Large garden pots?
Question:I have recently decided to take up making large garden pots out of concrete. How do I make an effective mold for casting large circular pots of approximately 4 feet by 4 feet. I would like to make it in one piece. I shall be using the tufa concrete mix.
Thank you

I'm not sure a pot of that size made form the mix used for "tufa" in the US would withstand the force from that volume of dirt...if made out of concrete the sides would have to be at least 3" thick out of tufa they would probably have to be twice that plus the base and curve up to the sides would have to be very thick. I don't know
About the mold, on a planter that size you would need to construct this yourself and would need a tremendous amount of bracing. You can make a latex mold of an existing pot or carve one out of a several blocks of Styrofoam and then coat it with a cement material and make the mold from there...if you want it unique thats the way to go...
why not use the ground? just dig down the shape you want use then put in sono tubing frome the hardware store it should be smaller than the hole in the ground then pour cement between the ground and the tubing to get the shape of the pot you want
you need a strong frame to build your mold in and use green sand to build your mold with here's a recipe to make your own.
