What kind of mortar/thinset to use for ceramic tile on a gas fireplace?

Question:I have a wood burning fireplace that I converted to vented gas. I put durock on the wall, but what kind of thinset should I use? Mastic or modified thinset?

Answers:
Definitely don't use mastic, modified thinset is the way to go most proffessionals use it for everything now.modified thinset allows for a little movement in the wall without cracking the tile. or breaking the bond.

never use mastic, it is garbage.

I don't know if you need modified thinset. The latex isn't going to do anything unless it is a wet area or with lots of movement.
