Answers:
Yes, there is no need to remove the wall. You would use gyproc screws to attach them, then you would have t o tape the joints and then give it a finish coat of plaster. Before you paint remember to prim the walls. Good luck BLUE
Why would you want to do that anyway?
If you want a painted surface, just remove the old wallpaper, prepare the walls by filling and sanding, and paint.
If you want to re wallpaper, do the same without the painting.
Give a little more information please/
if its a timber stud wall u can locate the studs then screw the sheets to the wall, no problem
if its a masonary wall, ie brick or block, cement rendered and plastered, you might want to stick the sheets to the wall in which case it would be best to remove wallpaper and any loose plaster
Try NO MORE NAILS or similar
You can nail sheets over the wallpaper and tape. If it is in an are with moisture use the right wall board for moisture or even concrete wall board and seal joints.
You can attach your new boards to the walls as they are, but not with water based adhesives as these will moisten the wallpaper and make it loose and thus create a poor surface to attach anything to. You will have to use screws/nails/solvent adhesive of some sort
If you use Dap and stick methord ( mostly used by the trade and best) wallpaper should be removed. Screwing plaster board to the wall is possible but a fiddle and if the wall is uneven your nice new board wall will be the same, but then you could leave the wallpaper on.
It may seem obvious but a word of warning if you decide to fix new board to the existing wall beware of hidden hazards in the wall such as electric wires, gas or water pipes when drilling, screwing or nailing the boards.
