Dirt House?

Question:I saw a tv show about weird houses and they had a guy in Scotland who dug a big hole in the side of a hill and built his house underground. It stays at around 60 degrees year-round and cost $1,500 to build. I think it'd be cool to try to build one of them. Has anyone ever heard of one of these in the USA or blueprints to make one or anything?

Answers:
I was in one some 50 years ago--literally had to climb up to get out. Where I live there are undergounnd homes--very nice, modern. The back part is built into the hill but you have the front out so you can see outside. Have never been in one of those but they look nice, in my opinion.

look into the files of Mother Earth News. I bet they have articles on it.
yes there are plans for theses houses i wish i could give you a website to go to but i dont know of one myself but you can try a search engine such as google or mywebsearch and type in underground houses // in my area there are a dozen or so scattered over a hundred miles and i ve heard good things of them so good luck and hope you can find what you need // (btw you would need to think of an underground house as a "upside-down-inside-out pool" you want to keep any water out of the house so you build a pool backward sort of)
