Water in shower comes out of the faucet AND showerhead?
Question:It's your standard shower/tub configuration (hot & cold knobs, faucet to fill tub, showerhead and a knob to send water up to showerhead). It worked fine for the last 12 months and now I have water coming out of the faucet AND the showerhead (could be dangerous, excessive water flow etc) suggestions?

its an easy fix you just need to buy a new show tub@faucet set it all comes in one box,it is easy to install ,only if you can easy remove old ,i just installed my new tub myself ,i did a nice job to be a girl,you could just replace the knob that redirects your water flow to and from tub to shower ,but getting it disconnected might be,a problem if all 3 are one piece so you should look at your set up ,just replace the whole set up ,its in expensive about 70.00 ,or less if you are on a budget like me ,i look for discounts,my setup was 50% off so i only paid 50 dollars plus fittings and new line ,its cheap though,do it your self ,before you have something else blow&you have a ton of water all over your house ps.if your not on a budget go for the gusto!!!!get the best!!
The knob is called a diverter and it either needs a new seal or replaced. When you pull or push the knob, a flapper moves to shut off the water to the tub and divert it to the shower piping. If this knob is on the tub spout, replacing the spout is easier and cheaper than trying to repair it.
I don't think it's dangerous unless you are afraid to drown in a bath tub while showering.
Call a plumber, your description is too vague for anyone to be of much help on answers. There are hundreds of different styles of faucets and each has different parts and repair instructions.
the only danger is, your water bill being high. sounds like your shower diverter is going bad. if you have a knob to turn it to shower from tub, like your hot and cold knobs. just unscrew it and replace the washers. you wont even have to turn the water off to it. if it has the pull knob on the tub spout, just unscrew it and get a new one at the hardware store.
The only danger here is that you may not have enough water pressure to get enough up to the shower for a decent spray, if it's also escaping out the tub spigot. Apparently the diverter, (the small shield that comes up into the path of the water when you pull up the knob on the top of the spigot), isn't coming up, either at all or only partially. That's why you get water from both places. It's not a tough job to replace the spigot, and can be done by most anyone who's willing to take the time to do it, with a few simple tools. You'll need something to grasp the old spigot to twist it loose on the pipe that will be protruding through the wall from the fixture, then take it to a hardware store or a home improvement center and buy the exact same replacement unit. There are several different types of thread on connections, so be sure to get the same type you take off. Then take it back, either wrap a little teflon tape, or apply a small bit of pipe dope to the threads of the pipe and screw the new one back on.

Anyway, just grab that whole lower faucet and unscrew it from the wall and replace it.
I fixed a simular problem just a few days ago. If your shower has a hot, a cold and a diverter valve, the problem is in the diverter valve. The is a round plastic washer with a lip that goes between the valve stem and the valve body.
These often disappear when they break. They just get wasshed out and go down the drain. Any small hardware store like True Value will have it and they would be better to help you find it quicker than a mega hardware store.
If your diverter is built into the tub spout, then you just need a new tub spout with diverter.
