Is it hard to put up a ceiling fan?
Question:I have 3 ceiling fans that I must put up. I have never done it myself and was wondering if this is something that I could do myself. I am on a buget and can't afford to pay someone. Any suggestions?Help!

It is all about where the power is coming from. If the fans are going into an existing light or fan fixture it is just a matter of taking out the old and replacing the new.If not it can be HELL! Definitely get a lisenced electrician to do it..No worries!
Power availability it key. If the wiring and switches are there, it is fairly easy, if not it is fairly hard. I would buy the Black and Decker Complete Guide to Home Wiring. It tells you ever thing you need to know with lots of photos and diagrams.
If you are replacing an old ceiling fan or existing light fixture, it is very basic. This link to the Lowe's website provides a step-by-step explanation:

If you are installing new (not replacing anything), you will need to run new wiring. If that is not something you are familiar with, you will need to consult an electrician.
doubt it, maybe a friend could do it for you, or you could consult the internet for instructions on how to do it.
If they are new just follow the instruction book close. My advice is to make sure the ceiling box you are installing the fans on is strong enough to support the them
You can definitely do it yourself. If replacing an existing fixture (like a light), just make sure you turn off the proper breaker, take down the light, and read the instructions with your fan. Make sure your fan came with wire nuts (those little plastic things you tie wires together with), if not, go buy some for 14 gauge wire. Also make sure you have electrical tape, a couple screwdrivers, and a utility knife.
If this is a new installation, you will have to run a wire from a power source (probably an electrical outlet) to a switch (probably one you'll have to install) and then to the fan. Might want to get a book, or call an electrician on that one.
Look at the electrical box that is in the ceiling. Is it strong enough to hold a fan? Remember, fans are not only heavy, but also cause vibration. If you are unsure, you can buy a new box made specifically for fans and replace it. Ask your hardware store, they will point you in the right direction.
The instructions should illistrate how to wire the fan, so I won't go into that here. I always make sure that I use both the wire nuts AND electrical tape to ensure that the nuts cannot come off as I'm pushing them around, and also to make sure no shorts can occur.
It shouldn't be too hard, the only other advice I have is to have someone there to help you hold the fan because it can get tedious with some fans if you have to hold them and wire it at the same time. And make sure the power is off!
diy electrical installation is a major cause of home fires, get an electrition to install your wireing and fan.
Dude, I am an electrician and these people all scare me and confuse me.
Just pay a guy $75.00 per fan and get it over with.
Problem solved!
