How to repaint white walls in my house?

Question:The walls in my house are all plain white walls. I have a few questions: First- The walls look dirty and discolored- they have not been painted in years, and are very marked up. Would we be able to get away with painting just 1 coat of white to the walls and have it look good enough to show a possible buyer? Second- If one coat of paint will suffice, then what about using just one coat of paint on all of the walls but instead of using white we would use a warmer color like beige, off white, or something like that (I heard that it makes the house feel warmer.) Third- We have very high vaulted ceiling throughout the house, what do you suggest we do to reach high areas...( we are trying to save $- so I will paint the walls myself and get some friends to come over and help out). and Fourth- I heard there is a cool hand machine that you can rent which sprays paint onto walls and gets the job done quicker, what is the deal with that- how much is that, where do I get it, is it messy?thanx

One coat should work and if you use an other color it should be ok also, but youll have to let it dry and see, if its too dark a color youll probably need two coats or more. For those high to rach places a lader to cut the edges and a paint roller with telescoping handle for the mass of the walls. Paint sprayers arent my thing, so i couldnt help with that.

if the walls are smooth, try cleaning them. if it is not heavy dirt or sticky or something obnoxious, just put on a coat of off white or light beige. try a section first. if it does not cover, use white primer, then use the off white or beige. smoothing light. new people will probably change the color anyhow. i would not panel it. looks like a cover up. and sprayer is a no,no.
Don.t spray inside the house, unless you decide to read a book to learn how. Cheepest way is to paint the same color as you have. Paint brush the corners and around trim, tape if your hand isen.t steady. Roller the walls. medum to thick knap roller for texured walls. Extreamly fithly walls should be cleaned and degreased. If you use a flat paint you wont need a primer. Just to freshenup on coat of the same type and color would work great. When selling a house just make sure it,s clean and neat, ready to move in. The new owners will undo anything that you do.
First wash the walls. Some dishsoap and warm water.after that your ready to paint. If your tryin to sell youll want to caulk first. As for spraying,I wouldnt rec. it inside the house unless you want to paint EVERYTHING! The high spots can be reached with a pole or you can rent scaffolding w/wheels.One coat may or may not cover. For really bad stains use some KILZ. Goodluck.
