If you look on the underside of the knob, you will probably find a little hex set screw. Unscrew it, remove the knob, pry the cover plate off its spring catches and you're in. You will find the screws you are looking for inside.

The screws are probably hidden behind a face plate that can be pryed off or rotated counter clockwise to remove. I just had my first of these as I am a remodeling contractor.
There should be a small slot on one side of the knob near the door. Use a small straight screwdriver and press on the slot and the knob should come off.
either of those first two are good; but if'n they don't work, heres what you do. on the shaft of the knob (on the inside of the door) there should be a tee-tiny little slot with an even smaller little "button" in it. using a small flat-head (or slotted) screwdriver, depress that button and then slide the face plate forward. screws will be behind it. However, if it's a particular type of "heavy security" knob; when you depress that button, the knob and shaft on your side will twist and pull off, then slide the rest of the assembly out the other side, then pull your bolt. good luck!
knobs are tied to the bolt mechanism. Look (and possibly unscrew) there.
