64" opening for tub&shower module?
Question:I am looking for 1 piece tab/shower module. My opening is 64". What options do I have? - Most modules are either 60" or require 65" opening?..
Answers:
Buy the smaller one and ask advice from a professional on how to adapt it to fit.
If this is a remodel & you are measuring 64" from existing wall surfaces., there are a couple of ways to go.
You could pick up the inch by removing any existing tile & wall board at the ends & installing new cement or water resistant wallboard between the existing studs to give recommended clearance.
You could also furr out the end walls 2" to give you clearance for a 60" unit.
Also consider size & move in path .
Had to go w/a standard 5' tub w/ a 3 piece surround because
there was no way to make turns w/ 1 piece unit.
Best regards
It will be easier to go down rather than up in opening size, if you cannot find a 64" module. Of course, if it is a remodel, changing the size of the opening will mean doing a little plumbing as well.
Without knowing what you are really trying to do, my guess is you may have to build up a sort of false-wall in order to close in your opening size, and can probably simply extend your pipes from their current positions with couplings and nipples. Same for your drain, if nessacary. Build your false wall the same as you would a normal interior wall and determine how best to tie it into the existing work.
