Has anyone ever built a real, fullsize tipi?

No, but I've seen them being set up.You need poles to make the structure, tie them together near one end. Dig postholes in a circle and drop them in, your structure should take shape. At this point you are ready to cover it. The tipis I saw had the covers already sewn and ready to go on.
Afraid I've never built a teepee either,though I'd like to. However, a friend of mine went to the doctors recently and said "one minute I think I'm a wigwam doc, next minute I think I'm a teepee" Doc said, "you're too tense" :-)
I've helped stand one up once. The tipi itself was already made, however. It is made of canvas and the poles were from lodge pole pines from the Adirondacks. The Adirondacks are found in the most beautiful State in the US: New York. Forget about your tipi and come visit one of the most naturally beautiful places in the world.
