How do i put drywall over exposed brick wall?

Question:addition on rear of house left one internal wall still brick, now dirty and dusty

Answers:
You can fasten 1X3 furring strips to the brick wall to attach your dry wall to, but I'd also put up a vapor barrier (sheet of visqueen) behind the furring strips to insure you have a moisture barrier behind the finished wall.

Build a 2x4 frame and attach to side walls and frame in;
drywwall over the frame
You need to build a frame against the brick wall, if it is in a basement make sure you use green board to help with any moisture problems you might have. good luck.
You could just lightly frame it out in one inch lumber, and use that for nailing according to spec. Alternatively, use an adhesive like liquid nails, if its a smaller wall than a multi-sheet job.
ok here is the deal, all you need is treated 2x2's to fur the wall out..since against brick it has to be treated lumber according to nation wide code. If your installing insulation can use that pink insulation in 4x8 sheets and cut to fit in between studs...add sheetrock using 1 1/4 screws and mud joints accordingly.
All these answers are sound but they all forgot to mention how you attach the wood to the wall. I would use a tapcon screw. You drill a hole in the mortar with a masonry bit in line with your new stud and then run one of these screws through the wood into the hole. make sure you buy screws long enough to make it through the wood and at least 1" into the wall. These screws hold like iron if you have good mortar and you shouldn't have any sagging problems
Forget all the wood framing.Liquid nail is you`re answer.Apply it thick on the drywall.You`re brick should be flush already so just liquid nail and stick it.you may have to hold in place till she tack`s but it will take a bulldozer to ever remove it .
These are good answers, but to bring you up to date, do it this way. PVA the wall this will seal it to prevent the ingress of moisture. Purchase some dry wall adhesive in powder form so that you can make it up as required. Make up some adhesive and apply it to the wall in what is called dot & dab fashion, basically apply it in dollops on to the wall. Place you plaster board on to the wall, start at a corner, use a set square or one of those corner level tools, and a good sized level, and with a rubber mallet lightly tap and push the board so that it runs level in both the vertical and horizontal. Once you have got the first board up and true then just follow on with the rest. Dont forget to tape the joints with plaster board tape ready fir skimming.
