Is there a way to install new cabinets without having to put in a new counter top?
Question:I do not want to redo my floor nor do I want to re-do the counter top---Is there a way to install new cabinets without these changes? I would like to purchase unstained cabinets and stain them myself.I do not want to make any design changes...can this be done and how??
Answers:
Re-face your stiles and replace the cabinet doors
If you are careful you can remove the counter tops. Score along the wall with a razor blade, score any adhesive with razor blade, and pull, pull, pull. No matter how careful you are, you might not be sucessful, but its worth a try. If you take photos and measurements before you remove your current cabinets you can be sure to place the new ones in the same position. home depot has a cabinet planner on their website, it works very well. Its a "CAD" program that allows you to map out your kitchen and place them, print it out, and go purchase the cabinets you want.
Unless your existing cabinets are custom built, they are the same size as new ones. Just unscrew your counter top and replace base and wall cabinets with new ones. You may want to compare the price of prefinished ones. The factory finish is superior to anything you may do yourself. They may be less expensive than unpainted ones and also the wood may be better.
