Does anyone know how to build a desk lamp, and what I need to build one?

Question:I want to build a lamp, but don't know every specific detail of how. Thanks in advance

Answers:
Usually home built lamps are made of wood, many of them turned on a lathe. All you need that's special, if you build a lamp that needs one, is a long drill to bore the hole down the middle for the cord or the use of a lathe if you want to turn one. You can by the socket and harp at woodworking suppliers or on line. Glue some felt to the bottom or use the little pads sold at woodworking suppliers for feet.

you should just but one it would be cheaper
I built one in highschool it is pretty easy. Just go to Home Depot they have a lamp kit. I made a peace sign out of wood, drilled a hole down the center, glued it to a wood platform. I think I hammered in a hollow threaded rod down the drilled hole, so the part that had the light bulb had something to screw into, I can't remember if that part came with the kit or not. Then I pulled the wire down the center of the drilled hole. I wired up the plug, the kit gave me instructions to do that, screwed in the switch part. It was pretty easy.
