Noisy Toilet?

Question:My toilet makes a hissing kind of sound continuously, I think there must be a leak or broken seal in the cistern, does this make sense to any handymen out there, can I fix this myself? How?

Answers:
If you have a ballcock assembly, and if you can take apart the tower part of it, you could rub petroleum gel on the rubber diaphragm and this could help save money. If not, you may need to replace the ballcock assembly, which is not that hard. Your local home improvement store should be able to help you in replacing that.

The ball (the big floating thing) may not be adjusted properly to close the water intake. It often can be adjusted by tightening the little chain that anchors it to the spout. You can see I'm not a plumber, but I've had to do this many times!
right after a flush? doesnt quit? the ball on your water shutoff in the tank isnt adjusted properly . lift slightly on the ball in your tank and see if that stops the hissing if it does then screw the ball upwards onto the arm if its already all the way up the threads, hold the arm off the ball and slightly bend it downwards still doesnt get it right . change the valve completely
