What does galvanized mean?
Question:like pipes or screws
Answers:
Galvanizing is the chemical process where iron and iron alloys (steel) are dipped into molten zinc. The zinc adheres to the steel through a spontaieous electrochemical process resulting in a tightly adhering layer of zinc on top of the steel. This silver - gray coating does not rust and prevents steel from rusting. A galvanized iron pipe is rust resistant whereas its iron (not galvanized pipe) will rust for instance.
Many steel items are galvanized. Fence wire, steel wire, steel cables, steel lamp posts, nuts, bolts, screws, sheet metal for buildings and automotive applications, steel gutters, steel roofing, etc.
Galvanized material does not need paint for protection. Some paints do not adhere well to galvanized metal.
If I remember what my exboyfriend told me correctly, it means that the steel is protected with a special sealant to keep it from rusting.
It is a zinc coating that is supposed to prevent corrosion.
Having a metallic coating (usually zinc)
It usually means coated with zinc. Most assume that means to dip, but that is not galvanized. Galvanized is when something is coated with zinc using electrolysis, an electrical way of coating. You can go to a home depot and look at dipped nails and electrocoated nails and see the difference in appearance. It does not make much difference in the purpose.
hot dip galvanized is to coat the material by dipping into the molten zinc
electro-galvanized is passing current through the zinc solution and deposit the zinc into the material
Galvanising is normally a hot dipping process where the item is dipped in zinc. That would apply to pipes, bolts etc and is dull grey and quite rough
There is also electro galvanising or zinc plating that gives a nice shiny finish and is generally used for screws hinges etc
coat (sheet iron, etc) with metal, eg zinc
it's a low grade steel but very tolernat to rust due to the coating, but if in salty weather it will rott
