Bug lights...flickering? My husban and I just moved into my grandmothers old house, she was a pack rat...?
Question:and she had a serious roach investation problem. Well, now that it is summer we have been spending alot of time in the back yard, and we just put some FLOURESCENT bug lights in these sockets out there. We have know Idea the last time those light sockets were used, the bulbs that were in there were dead. So we put the light in a flipped the switch, they took a few seconds to come on, and then when they did, they started flickering. What do you think the problem is. Is it that they havent been used in such a long time. I s there a short in the wires that could cause an electrical fire if we use them..some suggestions or insight would be helpful.

I have a mobile home and switched to the new flourescent bulbs a couple months after that I started having problems with lights flickering or not coming on.I had to replace all the switches I don't understand why my home isn't that old but I would recomend trying to change yours its not that hard.Shut off the breaker make sure to check for power at the switch incase you shut off the wrong breaker.I don't use the wire slots instead I wire to the screw connectors.Good luck and I hope this helps
For the roach infestation go to the store and purchase some boric acid also called roach away. Its very inexpensive and you put it down in the corners of your home. In about a week or less maybe two weeks you shouldn't see any roaches for a long time to come. The lights may have a short in them and I would use them with caution as it could be a fire hazard if that's the case. I'm not sure about anything further than that on the lights.
