Is there a reason people will paint the front door of their house red when it doesnt match the house paint?
Question:Many houses in our area have for example a light brown house with dark brown trim that looks very nice until you see the front door that is painted bright red! I wonder if there is some superstition that I have not heard of.

Red is supposed to be a warm and inviting color, to have it on your front door is to make you feel welcome. I don't think there is a superstition that goes along with it, though I just might never have heard of it.
The front door is not supposed to blend into the colors of the house and trim. It's traditional for people to paint the front door a different color. The door is meant to attract your attention, not only so that you know where to enter, but as a non-verbal welcome from the owner. Red just happens to be the color of the moment. It can be any color.
( I've seen houses with the door blending in, and it's boring.)

this is an old japanese tradition, it is suposed to bring safety and good luck to the residents. i always paint my front doors red. peace laura
Because they are color blind. I know a man who is and he painted his house black with yellow trim.
I just saw a program about red front doors recently. Red makes the other colors pop and shows the entrance to stand out. The red that was used was not a bright red but a darker warm tone. As a matter of fact, my redish door is fading and I'm looking for the original color as it looks very nice when done properly.
