Where to buy rock for my driveway?
Question:My driveway is just dirt so every time it rains it gets really muddy and we end up with holes. I would like to put rocks to make a hard surface. I've looked at Lowes and Walmart and only found small bags (I would need too many). Is there some other place I can try?
Answers:
contact a local quarry or landscape center and get some crushed limestone about 4 inches deep for a good base...the limestone compacts and will give you a hard surface to drive on...colored or decorative rocks do not work...they shift around and you will get ruts in your drive-way and it will be a different kind of muddy mess
Some of the concrete supply people in our area also sell rock, you could also try a landscape company.
home depot
u can try home depo they have many things there . U can look by the gardening area.
Look at gravel or road base supply in the yellow page. Road base because it is well graded and readily available at low cost is ideal for a driveway.
usually there is a "sand and gravel" company in most areas. measure your driveway, so you will know how many square yards of gravel you will need. give them a call, there are different sizes of gravel you can get. (they will be able to suggest what is best for the job you are doing) it usually cost a certain price, per square yard, they will usually deliver it. some places will spread it out for you for an additional cost. otherwise they will deliver it in a pile... and you get to have the fun of spreading it all out.
good luck!
Even though they only sell smaller quantities of rock at Lowe's, I'm sure that if you ask someone there, they can give you the name/number of a supplier. At the Lowe's in my town, they keep that kind of information handy, just for this purpose.
Or you could ask a neighbor (with a stone/gravel driveway) where he got HIS rock.
Hit up a local landscaper and see what lot they get theirs from. Most of them go to a landscape center or quarry where they get theirs. Out in my town there is a huge quarry that was an abandoned lot that the citizens take upon themselves to take care of and operate. No one really owns it but all the high school kids hang out there and adults operate it all the time.
You need to look for a stone and landscaping business. They offer all sizes of rocks, stones, pavers etc.
Look in yellow pages under stone masons .
look in the phone book or stones an or gravel. buy a portion or whole truck load.
