What are the steps to installing a 1/8" molly bolt into drywall; predrilling size & depth, etc?
Question:Installing a shelf, never used this type of "anchor". Tried drilling hole 5/16" in diameter & 3/8"deep; visuals on package. This didn't entirely go through drywall. Hammered bolt in and screwed to sink deeper into drywall. When I screwed in screw, the entire bolt pulled out of wall!
Answers:
If you are installing a shelf, instead of using a moly bolt, can you find a stud on the wall where you want the shelf? Moly's are used for hollow walls, like drywall. Measure the diameter of the shaft of the moly and drill to that size. Myself, I just use the head of a phillip's screwdriver and push it through the drywall. Once again, for the weight of the shelf, I would use the studs and wood screws to secure the shelf. good luck
The back of the package the molly-bolt came in should have those answers.
What's a "Molly Bolt"?
Are we talking about a wall anchor and screw?
Or a toggle bolt that pinches closed and springs open?
What type of anchor?
How much weight are you planning on putting on the shelf?
How many supports are you using?
