How can I remove a pedestal sink that has been thin set to tile?

Question:I just bought a house and wanted to redo the style of one of my bathrooms. I thought this would be quite easy because it simply involved changing out a pedestal sink and faucet ... I was able to remove the basin part of the pedestal with ease but the base of the sink appears to have been thin set or grouted down to the tile.

Can anyone give me some tips as to how I can remove the sink without cracking the tile underneath?

Will I have to retile the part of the floor that the sink was set to before installing a new pedestal?

Thanks!

Answers:
you can gently chip awat at the grout or thinset with chisel or screwdriver to release pedestal once removed check and see if new pedestal will cover if not gently chip away remainder good luck from Texas

first disconnet the water supply lines and the drain, then remove the basin from the wall, should be bolted. The pedestal is free standing and should pull right up and away from the floor. clean grout around area and install new tile. Once all is set simply reverse the order of taking it apart..might need to remount the basin in different height but should be no problem and drain and water lines should be ok also as there usually is enough play in drain trap to alow that extra height it's going to be sitting.
First, look "inside" the back of the pedestal. Some are bolted down to the floor and the seal you are seeing may just be decorative. May also have a silicone sealant and then the grout/thinset. Depending on what was used to hold it down, you may or may not need to retile. New pedestal may cover any remaining sealer. Good luck.
you re not going to chip the tile just brake the pedestal and try to get it out in pieces Good luck
