How do i do a mix for rendering?

Firstly you need to prepare surface to be rendered making sure it is clean and dust free. You then apply a watered down coat of P.V.A this will allow your mortar to adhere to the surface.Depending on how thick your render is going to be you may have two apply two coats.Usually if it is going to be over 12mm thick you apply your first coat without being to critical. You then use a trowel to scratch lines into this coat, this will allow your next top coat to key into your base layer.Make sure your mortar is not to dry as it will be harder to spread out.I would do a mix of 4 parts sand to 1 cement.Spread your mortar on using a trowel after you have achieved a descent level you then need to get a straight edge, long or short depending on size of area to be rendered. You then shuffle this backwards and forwards one end being at the required level. This will then cut off any excess high spots in the render and allow you to obtain your level. After you are happy with your level you then use a plastic float and gently,in a circular motion rub over the surface. This is mainly to achieve the finish
2 shovels of sand to 1 of cement water ... shuffle it about with the shovel. til it thickens and nice and wet..
no one bothered to tell you that unless you use MASONRY CEMENT you will need to add a MORTAR PLASTICISER like FEB MIX to your cement to help make it more workable.
