How easy is it to install a ductless air conditioner?
Question:I have a one bedroom apartment and the window unit does not cool my apartment off enough (it's in the livingroom and I'm on the second floor). I can't get the windows open in my room so I thought about a split (ventless) ac unit. I can't seem to find a clear answer on the installation. I've read a three inch hole needs to be drilled for one but I don't know if I can just do the lines separately (power, cooling, etc.) so I don't have to drill holes (could I run it under the door?). I live in Tampa, Florida and I've had a heck of a time even finding a unit as well. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated and I don't plan on moving somewhere else, so that's out of the question.
Answers:
#1 is make sure the landlord will allow & know once installed it becomes part of the property and cannot be removed. they are not that difficult to install you need 1 hole to bring the coolant in and out, and probably a 220 outlet some where near the unit. they are hung high and have a variety of finishes to match your decor. the actual condenser sits on a pad or blocks outside and the hoses are precharged and plug in. sanyo makes a nice unit, and i am sure you can google up a # of other manufacturers. should cost between 1 & 2 k depending on your needs. you can disguise the lines outside by covering with a piece of gutter w/ the back cut out
