Tell a locksmith the manufacturer of the cabinet, along with any visible numbers, and he/she will likely be able to originate a key. With a number, I'm almost 98% successful. There are also a few other non - destructive methods of gaining entry, which of course I cannot divulge. By delivering the cabinet to a lock shop yourself, you might be surprised at how little it could cost. Phone or e-mail first, and ask for an estimate.

u should def. get a professional lock person to help you out on that one. Or, you can just get someone to look at the lock and make another key for you. Good luck!

don't call a locksmith. get a drill with a bit made for metal and drill right through it.
Before you destroy anything write down the number on the lock and call the company that made it to see if a replacement key is available. That is the easiest if it is available.
Otherwise you need to drill out the innards. Take a drill bit about a quarter inch in diameter and use it to make a hole through the center of the lock about an inch and a half long. Now take another drill bit about the diameter of the lock cylinder (half inch wide or so) and put its point in the quarter-inch guide hole and drill the same distance down. That will destroy the lock mechanism and let you reach in and twist the locking part with a screwdriver to open it.
After it is open put in the replacement lock which either has a clip or a nut to hold it.
If your file cabinet is a major brand, like Hon for example, contact the manufactuer & they may be able to send you a new key. Often there is a tiny number on the lock - give them that info. You can find manufacturer's phone numbers online.
you need to open the thing befor you can change the lock you can take a heavy duty screw driver and a cresent wrinch and try to turn it or get a drill and a good meatle bit and drill it out
