Can i get rid of poison ivy?

Question:Look, I got poison ivy 5 times last year and now I have it again. I hate needles, but I'm willing to get a shot if there is one that will get rid of my poison ivy. Is there even a shot out there? And if there is, can I get it at the regular doctor's office.

Answers:
Ok, there are 2 parts to answering your question.
1. Treatment: Steroids will help stop the reaction that occurs after exposure to topical irritants like poison oak and ivy. They are available in oral and injectible forms. Many people will claim that a single shot of steroids "cured" their poison ivy; however, the truth is that the injectible steroids only stay in the system for around 24 hours. Taking a 3-5 day course of oral steroids is much more effective.
You also need to thoroughly wash (in hot, soapy water) anything that came in contact with the poison oak or ivy - clothing, tools, gloves, sunglasses - EVERYTHING! The oil can still be present on these items and the next time you use/wear them - itch, itch, itch.
2. Prevention: The reason the rash started in the first place is exposure to the plant and the oil (urishiol) that it secretes. KILL THE STUFF!! You must use brush killer, not weed killer, to eliminate poison ivy and oak.
Also, learn to recognize the plant itself, then avoid it. Wear longer clothing if you know you're going to be around it.

Yes callimide lotion rub it on at least once a day
ask a pharmacist at Wal Mart or some drug store--also cover your self up when working where the PI might grow. There is a cream you can put on prior to exposure.
Yes you can get rid of poison ivy. I have done it many times. If you get rid of it no one else will get it. I am not a believer of shots for just anything. Give your body a break and go to the garden shop near you and ask for a product that kills it. Bayer Advanced Brush Killer Plus is ready to use and will kill it down the roots. Itch no more! Check it out on www.ask.com and put in poison ivy killer. Good luck to you.
As far as I know there is not an internal preventitive but I have heard of people acquiring immunity. You are going about it the right way if that is your goal.
If the ivy is in your property you can kill it with a woody brush killer available at any hardware store, if not there is a cream (Ivy Block) that helps protect you if you apply it first and you could wear long sleeves and pants. You do know what it looks like? If not I would try to learn.
The only thing that will make it heal faster is a shot from the doctor. Either prednisone or cortizone meds. They are both a form of steroid. Some people are allergic to these though. The oil of poison ivy gets into your bloodstream through your skin. It has to run its course. All the meds on the shelf will only help the itching some and dry up the blisters some. Scratching does not spread it but does tend to make it infected and feel more uncomfortable. web search poison ivy.
you can get a shot to help you, call your doctor.
for relief...take a hot bath or shower or just run as hot as you can stand water over the area...heat releases histamine, the substance in the cells of the skin which causes intense itching...will get 6-8 hours of relief...hot water draws out the histamine thereby stopping the itch. It takes your body 6-8 hours to regenerate the histamine. Hot water also causes drying.
I did this after I got the shot and was having trouble sleeping. I had done the calamine lotion and benedryl creme and anything else I could try. The hot water felt so good that I almost passed out. I slept 8 hours without any itching and without any creme or lotion on the areas.
Spectracide does a good job killing the ivy in the yard
Someplace I read that the oil stays potent on surfaces for 6 years...scary
Use round up total vagetation killer.
