Question:

Answers:
Get plywood or plexy glass, cut to fit the opening above the unit. If you use plywood, you can paint to match your homes exterior, and interior, so it doesn't look to bad. We have tries both, they work well. Just seal the edges with a silicone caulk, so the air and temperatures do not escape.

you have to get an air conditioner that is fitted or made for horizontal opening windows. a google search for horizontal window ac's brought me to this on: http://www.ventingdirect.com/index.cfm?p...

they are more expensive than others...
Just get a piece of plywood and cut it to the right size and wedge it in above the air conditioner.
option to the plywood, consider plexiglass to allow light into the window.
