I have to form a concrete base for a work studio 4metres by 3 metres, it has to have 150mm of concrete on hard
Question:core, how many bags of ballast and cement will this take, and roughly how much to do, uk answers please, thank you
Answers:
This slab will require 1.8 m³ of concrete.
That would be about 2 loads of ready mix (1m³ of ready mix will weigh in at 3000kg). If you have a good strong truck (lorry) you might be able to tow it yourself, but otherwise have them deliver it.
You could rent a portable mixer and mix it on site, but having done 1m³ once, I won't do that again. It is just too much work. Look on the bags to get an estimate of how much volume each bag creates.
you would be much better to buy in ready mixed form . look in phone book for a company near you ..call them .. they will work out amounts ..deliver and pour it on
ready mix as its stronger & has chemicles in it to protect it.
plus they will work out how much you need
saves the hard work of mixing it your self to
Im thinking of doing the same thing, and not wanting to get all that cement up a 200ft garden, im going to make small cement bases for pillars of brick which will act as a platform. also compensate for the unlevell ground, where i want to place my workshop
4 by 3 metres is twelve.multiply this by 11...oprox number of square feet in cubic metre ..you get 132 ..devide by 2 ...150mm is aprox halfe a foot ..you get 76 cubic feet ..35 cubic feet in one metre ..so you need just over 2 cubic metres of concrete .. acubic metre of concrete weighs 2 tonnes ...so you need aproz 4.1 tonnes of materials ..if the concrete is made at a mix of 6 to 1 ..you will need 14 cwt of cement and 3 tons 8cwt of ballast
you,ll need 1.8 meters cubic of concrete , see a local ready mix company , they may do a mini mix
