Old air conditioner?

Question:Dear all,
I have an old air conditioner that has an exhaust mode, closed and open, which one shall I set the air conditioner to? Also, its air filter is almost destroyed, it is like a thin spongy cloth that needs replacement, any ideas where I may get a new one? thank you very much in advance, Rojin

Answers:
Close exaust. Don't pull cooler air out of the room.

Any good hardware store should be able to fit you a replacement filter; take it with you.

The filters you can buy at any hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot even Ace. You can also try Kmart and walmart thos kinds of places too.
Closed than it will recirculate the air in the room , the filter you can get at any home center , cut it to fit...
you should be able to find an adequate filter replacement at homedepot, lowes, or an ace hardware...just may require some trimming to fit what you need. The closed/open feature is USUALLY for the 10% fresh air to bring some clean air into the house so you are not recycling stale air...it will reduce efficiency slightly but will keep the air quality better.
you can buy the filter at any hardware or home center. exhaust as you refer to is to let fresh air into the room in most cases this is not needed.
