How do I cut 1/4" thick glass?
Question:I have cut glass for stained glass windows and regular double strength glass, but a friend wants me to trim some corners off a piece of 1/4" thick glass. The last time I cut 1/4" inch glass I remember it being Very hard to break along the score line. Does anyone have a suggestion about the easiest way to cut the glass, or how to get it to break along the score line without so much effort?

When you cut stained glass pieces you probably used those little funny shaped nibbing pliers right? Well when you cut thicker glass you use a different type of pliers.
They are called break out pliers or drop jaw pliers. This would be the easiest method to remove the corners. simply score the corner and then grab the piece as close to the score line as possible with the hump of the pliers facing down, (if you find a pair you will see what i am saying).
While applying steady firm pulling pressure, gently push down on the handle. It will come off perfect.
Or, for a second method...
score the glass, then position the score line directly over the edge of your cutting table or some other flat surface ( a straight edge works good too) then tap on the corner with the handle of your cutter in a quick stabbing motion.
Or...
Score the glass, then (with gloves on, safety, safety) grasp the corner of the glass with your thumb on top and your index finger directly below the score line. Smoothly push down applying pressure with your wrist and thumb.
Also, when you cut thicker glass it helps to use a cutting fluid to keep the score cool. Professional cutter fluid works best but kinda hard to get hold of if you dont own a glass shop. Kerosene works very, very well. Use a small paint brush to brush it on the glass where you will score it, and dip some on the head of your cutter. This will work wonders.

Go to a glass store and have a professional do it. Cheaper than experimenting.
make your mark with a glass cutter and use glass pliers to get the piece. You can attempt first to knock the unscored side to see if you get a run, the pliers will be better.
