I am painting a garage but i need to know what kind of paint is on the garage latex or oil based is it a way?

depends what ur gonna put in there..when u go purchase the paint-let them know what ur garage is being used for & they can recommend what you need..good luck..
Most everyone uses latex now as it is so much easier to use and clean up with water, so it is more likely that type. I found this dialog on the web with a discussion on how to tell the difference...it isn't visual as you may suspect.
If you have some spare latex paint around the house, you can paint a little bit on and wait for it to dry. When it's dry, if you scrape your fingernail on it and it comes off easily, the original paint is oil-based.
