How to I attach 2 x 4's to a cinderblock wall?
Question:I'm organizing an un-finished basement and the walls are all block. I want to mount some 2 x 4's to the wall just to be able to attach hooks and peg board to for tools etc.
Answers:
Masonry screws (Tapcon is one brand) are your best bet. Make sure that you use pressure treated 2x4s for contact with the masonry.
If you can nail into the ceiling joists near the wall you can suspend 2x4's from there. Liquid nails would help to anchor the lower end.
Tap cons there made to attach wood to concrete
You could use masonry nails or a "hammer-drill" and install wall anchors for a good stable and safe way to do it.
If there isn't going to be a lot of weight on the pegboard you will just need to get some masonry nails.
Otherwise you will need some dynabolts or similar.
My advise would be to call in at your local hardware store and have a chat.
Not only will they be able to tell you what you will need, but they will be able to show you as well. They may even have "how to" brochures.
Rent a ram set. > bullet driven nails
your best bet is to fasten the 2x4s to the joists with screws, so you can remove it lsater if you want to. but i would not use treated lumber inside the house. it is also a matter of choice, like using masonry screws. dont need a hammer drill. they have screws made for just that.
Use a molly anchor for hollow walls
