Can a slipstitch be done on a sewing machine or is it only for by hand sewing?

Question:I'm making a bag and in the pattern I'm told to slipstitch a folded edge of a lining to the zipper tape. Is this only possible to be done by hand? Or, can I use my sewing machine for this?

Answers:
You can if you adjust your tension on your sewing machine just right. It is a tedious trial and error experiment though.

Good luck!

If you're installing a zipper, do you have a zipper foot? The only other way I can think of is to use a hem stitch if you have it on your machine. Otherwise it'll be by hand.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
DK is right. Unless you buy or borrow a machine that will do a slip stitch, you are stuck with doing it by hand.
in most cases when a pattern calls for slip stitch ,it's done by hand.Otherwise it would state to be machine basted. You could most likely catch the edge you have to slip stitch in the seam allowance, done from the bottom opening for the bag
You will need to get an attachment to do the slip stitch/Blind stitch. You may have one if you got attachments with your machine. But, I have always found it faster to hand stitch.
Thinking about this very carefully. I would have sewn the lining in the hand bag first. Then sew in the zipper. Or machine stitch the lining to the zipper then to the hand bag. Think about the directions carefully, some times they don't make seance right away. There are many other stitches you can work with. Don't be scared to use the stitch that works best for you.
Good Luck.
