Is it necessary to have the old fibreglass insulation removed from my attic before adding blown cellulose?

Question:We want to upgrade our attic insulation, some areas have little or no insulation. It's currently blown fibreglass, but I'm considering putting the blown cellulose in instead. Is it worth the expense of removing the old insulation, rather than just blowing the new cellulose over top?

Answers:
It is not worth removing the old insulation.
The R value is so close to the same that it is actually beneficial to keep the old insulation because you will use less of the new.

remove the old cause the r value is going to different with the blow insulation.also check with the company who is going to be doing the job
Personally I would remove it. You don't have to but you will get some of the tight spots better with the Blown cellulose
bah. did you ever here anyone say there was too much insulation in a house? leave it in!
unless it is damage or was was not installed corectly theres no reason to take it out. By putting in blown-in your adding to what you all ready have. Just make sure none of the vents at the low end are blocked off. the more insulation in a roof the better.
