How can you keep wasps from building in the same site year after year?
Question:Every spring they come back. I don't know where the nest is, but I think that it's on the roof somewhere. When I go out on my back porch I usually see one or two of them (they are some kind of paper wasp) flying around. I'm *terrified* of wasps...can you help?
Answers:
I think they have probably built a nest right under your eaves, right inside that opening. They only need a small hole to enter in there right into the house attic itself.
Unless you can locate their entry hole, you are pretty much stuck with these things. See if you can find out where they are entering your house and caulk up that hole.
The good thing, these type of wasps you describe are pretty doscile and are good insects eating fly eggs is their specialty food. I myself have these things around my house and it seems they even build mud huts around and leave them for me to wash off. Ive never been bitten by one of them. I dont think they bit, but im not sure they dont.
I saw recently on the Dept of Ag site that spraying with WD40 is the most effective repellent for wasps and bees that live in farm machinery and nest in farm sheds. It lasts the longest for something like 6 months under cover.
