How do I insulate my attic? Do I need ventilation where the walls are angled, directly against the roof?
Question:I did not finish my 3rd floor when I built my house 12 years ago. Now I want to finish it and the next step is insulation. I have my heat pump installed and am ready to insulate but can't find any guidance. I don't know what insulation to buy and what I do for the angled walls directly against the roof. Where would I find these answers?

For the rafters use fiberglass batt insulation which you can get at a HomeDepot. Im not sure what a heat pump is, but if it is a sheet metal duct, use fiberglass board insulation and attach it by pinning it up with stick pins (pins that stick to the duct and then you push the board onto the pins. You can buy the board insulation and pins online at www.buyinsulationproducts.com. Hope this helps
Whatever you do, don't use the loose stuff that they blow in as insulation. We moved into a house last year and found out that the attic had that stuff in it. We have so much dust and it turns out that the heater was sucking that stuff out of the attic and blowing it into the house. It's a mess.
Good luck! :)
Where the roof angles down to the eaves is where the circulation air enters the attic, it is essential that these vents remain open both for humidity control and heat control so the roof doesn't cook. There are ribbed battens that can be mounted to the underside of the roof sheathing so that insulation can be placed against the underside of the roof without blocking the vents. These battens are sold at home center for cheap.
Blown in fiberglass insulation free of formaldehyde is the industry standard insulation because it is good insulation, it is rot free, does not support mold or bugs and is cheap compared to all others.
just go to your local hardware store, you want the most insulation for your dollars, I would say at least a 30,
and you do want insulation into the angled walls
go to http://www.diynetwork.com/
yu can not put insulate in the attic of the roof side you can only insulate the floor . the roof need to open . also is the atic going to be a room if not no need to insulate the roof section .the floor insulation should be around a r-12 .but check with your home inprovement store
If you have no vents in the attic to allow air in and out at the angles then yes put insulation there. you will need to find out how far apart the rafters are and how tall for example are they 16" apart and what lumber was used 2x4 or 2x6 it will depend on the thickness of the insulation you buy. I would advise against the blow in they have come along way since just the paper type but it is still a mess and if you ever have to remove it a mess again it will be. You can buy your insulation in bundles and they have it encapsulated meaning that it can have a protective layer around the insulation so that you don't itch when installing however you do pay a little more for the covered stuff. If you go to home depot or Lowe's they will have insulation brochures there with the dimensions so go from there after you measure what you have at your home. Hope this helps
