I'm digging holes for new fence post. Unfortunatley the rotten post "stubs" are at bottom of the hole...

Question:Once I reach this I can't go any further. Is there any tool I can use for removing this wood without making the hole bigger. They are the old 4x4x8 fence post that are twords the bottom of the hole and are rotten.

Answers:
I broke my up with a long screwdriver, hammer and 1/2" pipe about 3 foot long. Then dug out the chips. That left the concrete so I could put the new post in.

One note, we learned to slam the new post in then cut it at the right height. That's because not all the post went ALL the way down to the original bottom of the hole. The ones that didn't quite go down as far are just as sturdy.

i reccomend you vist hardware (lowes, home depot) they should help u out.
Dig down around the post stub about 6 inches, that should be enough for you to get your hands around it and pull it out.
You might have to move it back and forth a little bit to loosen it. Water will help with the effort.
if you have a heavy duty drill with a half inch chuck, get a long auger bit, a one inch or 3/4. something a fool long or longer if possible. carefull of your wrist while drilling. It should only take two or three holes straight down to soften the post remnants enought to pull out.
if that does not work, try burning them out. start some cahrcoal briquetts, poor them into the hole and wait. keep an eye out for sparks. Each burning should take the stump down three to six inches.
move over 6-8 inches and voila! no old post,
