Question:My daughters rocking chair is white, and I'm wanting to paint it black. After I paint it black, I want to polka dot the chair lavender and pink. Would I need to go light on the pink and lavender to make the polka dots show up on the black?

Why not paint areas of the chair pink and lavendar. Let dry well, and then cut out circles of masking tape and place all over the pink and lavendar. Then paint the chair black, then remove the masking tape.
I think the pink and lavendar will show up better if they are painted over white, not black.

After you paint the chair black make the dots with white, Gesso would be great for this. After the white dries you can paint any color and it will show up.
