How do you keep ants from crawling into the house?

Question:Isn't there something like baking soda or salt that you can put across the doorstep and they won't cross it? These are little brown guys that form enough of a line that I can follow the trail. They are coming in the windows, even upstairs. The house is brick.

Answers:
baking soda ...they won't cross it.

spices. cinnamon, clove, nutmeg
They won't cross a chalk line. But your best bet is to get some ant poison that poisons them slowly.because you want them to live long enough to take the poison back to their nest where they will infect the rest of the colony.
I saw an ad from Lowes where there is some kind of CHEMICAL--they called it a barrier of some kind--that you spray around the foundation of the house. I don't like chemicals either, but enough is enough sometimes.
I've Always Heard that ants won't cross a chalk line. Tried it in my new apartment and it seemed to work good. And they were the black "piss ants". Hope it helps.
okay, may sound funny, but I use lemon juice. . you can also use salt ,Cayeanne pepper or tea tree oil. ( or a combination of a few)
The first step is to eliminate the food source they are after. Mop the floor, wipe down the cabinets and counter tops. Clean the legs of tables and chairs in the room.

After cleaning the room then you can use borax powder as a deterrent.
I usually leave a well prepared picnic basket on a blanket in the yard all summer and since I started doing that I haven't seen a single ant any where near the house.

****Additional tip for houseflies in the kitchen: Place a bucket of S#it in the living room and you will never see a fly in the kitchen again!---You're welcome!
I've had great results with a product called Amdro. It's a granular powder you sprinkle around outside where they are getting in. It's both a bait and a poison. It will, first of all, draw your indoor ants back outside -- since it tastes better to them than anything in your kitchen. Then they carry it back to the main colony and it kills 'em all -- queen included.

It's a little pricey, but well worth it. Always does the trick for me in just a few days.
We had this problem recently. They were coming in around windows in several rooms. My pest control company said that they must have their ant's nest inside the walls, or under the foundation. No matter how much they sprayed, the ants kept coming back. We kept everything as clean as possible, but it didn't seem to matter. I tried every natural remedy I could find (salt, vinegar, chalk, borax/sugar syrup, cinnamon oil, grits, etc). It was making me crazy. What finally worked?? A tube of caulk. I went around and caulked up every tiny hole I could possibly find. It turned out that they were coming through tiny holes where past owners had hung curtains, and through little holes where the alarm system sensors are installed. It was riduculous the spaces they managed to squeeze through!! But by diligently caulking every time I saw ants, they were soon all gone. And the best part was that I didn't have to worry about making my house toxic anymore with chemicals. Good luck!!
Black Pepper
boric acid..grits...grits make them swell and explode boric acid they just dont like...fill in all holes you see with a grout or other sealer..treat the ground outside and under the house if possible especially around all water pipes leading into the house to keep them out
Baking soda, they hate it! also ant killer will help decrease the numbers a bit hopefully. make sure you also have no sugary products or sweet things that are open as that can attract them to come inside.
Here's some help to the rescue!
