How can I fix my toilet?

Question:When I try to flush, the water rises to the top of the bowl, but doesn't go back down for a few hours!! Is there a way to fix this without calling a plumber? Thanks in advance~!

Answers:
When a drain is sluggish, there is something blocking it. Since the toilet is the largest drain in the house, there is a really big block.

The problem is, where is the block?

If it is at the toilet, a plunger, or snaking out the blockage, is all you need to be back to normal.

But, if the blockage is not close to the toilet, it could be evidence of a big blockage in the main drain line, either from some foreign obstruction, tree roots growing, or a collapse in the main drain in the yard somewhere.

If you have clean-outs in the yard, allowing you to access the main drain, open it up to check for presence of water.

If there is standing water in the clean-out, the problem is from the clean-out to the connection to the main sewer. If it is clear, the blockage is from the clean-out to the house.

You can fix it yourself, if you possess all of the skills and tools to unblock a main drain line, including a rotating blade.

Otherwise, you may need to "bite the bullet" and call a plumber.

Plunge the hell out of it, or get a wire hanger and stretch it out and stick it in there and ream it good. Last but not least get some drano or rent a snake and send it down the toilet. Really cheap to rent at Home depot. Have fun
It sounds like your trap is blocked and fluid isn't draining quickly. Go to Home Depot and get a cheap snake.
If this cannot be solved with a plunger(in some cases you can push the plunger all the way down forcing all of the air out of it and then very quickly pull up on the plunger sometimes this helps unlodge the stuck item.if this does not work you may need to pull the toilet and remove the item blocking it up ie:small toys if you have children or one of the worst culprits are q-tips.
You've got a plugged line. Try using a plumber's snake. Also try some Drano stuff to eat away whatever is in the way. You can also try plunging or using compressed air once it goes down. If all fails.call the plumber.
I had similar issues, I just replaced my toilet. It was only a couple hundred bucks or something and a quick an easy job. You'd be surprised how easy it is to replace a toilet.

1) turn off water
2) flush to get water out
3) remove back lid and unscrew the flusher unit to get the water empty from tank, using a bucket to drain to.
4) undo two nuts holding the base
5) Undo line to toilet
6) Pull up on toilet and put in bathtub so you can tilt it to get remaining water out then throw away.
Re-assembly is just opposite except you need a wax ring, Home depot carries toilets very inexpensive and they come with alot of stuff.

Sometimes the flush tunnel is just so small in older homes that replacing with a larger one solves all your troubles.
Remove the water by hand and get a product called "30-second Plumber" that comes with a toilet adapter, as it is also used for clogged sinks. It's around $20, but it really works! You press it into the drain and it creates pressure which forces out the clog, and is safe for plumbing. I'd try the simple snake method first; to purchase a residential-use snake would amount to about $15 or less, and that usually works. And don't eat too much fibre. Hope this helps.
Have you noticed your sink or shower drain having any problems? You need to check them if they are ok. It might help to put drain O in those area's after you try to either use the plunger or snake if that dose not work use the drain O. In the shower and sink. It have heard it lets air in. If any one using the toilet uses wipes or tampons this might be the problem. If someone dose get a plumer. Good Luck
