What can you use to seal a wooden cup?

Question:I made two wooden cups out of cherry wood and I need a sealer that is food safe so that I can actually use them.

Answers:
I would go to an art supply store and get that clear epoxy that they use on restaurant wooden tables. Put on several coats (letting each dry hard as per the directions on the can). when you have built up a uniform coat you are all set. It will have that deep gloss appearance and the wood grain will look great. Since it is approved for eating surfaces it will be OK for drinking cups.

Wax. Like milk cartons.
cooking oil will be absorbed by the wood, and since oil and water don't mix, liquids placed in the cups should stay in the cup proper and not the wood.
Years ago we used to use vegatable oil on wooden bowls. I don't know if it would work for a cup or not. By rubbing it in with several coats, it would make it water resistant, but don't know how it would hold up to heat as in coffee.
never use cooking oil on wood you use for food. it goes rancid. use mineral oil it is completely digestible and wont go rancid...
mineral oil is the best. You can get it at drug stores as it is sold as a laxative.

Mary had a little watch,
she swalled it one day.
She took a dose of oil
to pass the time away.
